As Emily and Jake stepped into the beautiful hedge maze, they felt a sense of excitement wash over them. The vibrant green leaves and bright flowers made the maze seem like a picturesque escape, and they both knew that finding their way out would be a fun challenge. 

But as they began navigating through the twists and turns, something strange began to happen. The sky, which had been bright and sunny when they entered, suddenly turned dark. The pleasant chirping of birds turned into haunting hoots and eerie rustling. 

Emily shivered and rubbed her arms as they pressed on, navigating by the faint light of the stars above them. Suddenly, they stumbled upon a clearing in the maze, overlooking a breathtaking view of the northern lights. 

They stood in awe until they noticed a glowing door on the opposite side of the clearing. Excited by the prospect of escaping, they rushed towards it, only to find it was locked tight. 

As they searched for the key, Emily couldn't shake the feeling that they weren't alone. Every time they turned a corner, it seemed like something was lurking just out of sight. The night noises were slowly growing louder. At first she thought it was her imagination, but a large HOOT from an owl above scared her nearly to death! With heart pounding she heard Jake's voice echo across the hedges, "I found the Key!" and they raced back to the glowing door. 

But as Jake triumphantly held out the key to unlock the door, they couldn't believe what happened next. The door creaked open, revealing a sparkling new dimension of colors and light beyon imagination, but as they gazed in they noticed that the sun was moving quickly in the sky, and in fact, time seemed to be different in this place as well. The new world they gazed upon had become night, and the pleasant chirping of the birds transformed into crickets.

A cold wind whistled hard through the door towards them, almost beckoning them to enter. Emily pulled her scarf around her neck, looked back at Jake and smiled.

"Well, come on. This thing ain't gonna escape itself!"

Jake laughed and they dove through the door and into their next challenge.
